Education Reform
The Friday furloughs have ignited a firestorm of controversy among parents.
EducationMatters.Org, a group of parents who have been passing around a petition to stop the furloughs, have organized a rally to be held this Friday at the Capitol from 10am-1pm. I intend to be there and encourage you to be there too!
It is worth noting that the bosses of the HSTA have no legal or fiduciary responsibility to protect the students, and they, not parents, negotiated the furloughs with the DOE. The only people the Big 4 Bosses (HGEA, HSTA, UPW and UHPA) have a legal and fiduciary duty to serve are their members, and for the HSTA that is teachers, not students.
And to add insult to injury, the Department of Education has not had a comprehensive audit of their entire organization, management practices and personnel administration since 1973. The DOE always complains about lack of funds and yet, because the DOE has not been audited, neither they nor the taxpayers know where the DOE’s two billion dollar budget gets spent!
Our public education system has failed Hawaii’s children long enough. The system is broken; the buck passing needs to stop; the entire governing structure of our education system needs to be reformed.
If you believe this issue is as important for the future of our state, please contribute to my campaign for Lieutenant Governor for the Republican party in 2010. Any amount, $5, $10, $25, $100 (or more!) helps. We need resources to keep the fight going!
Thank you and God bless,
